Mai Rigan Kaba 2

The design is titled “Atamfa Mai Rigan Kaba,” which translates to “The Man with the Dum-Palm Fronds Gown” which inspires the design. It features a semi-abstract figure of a bird and an abstracted figure of palm fronds. The image is made up of a multifarious repeat system. It is enough to say that, the focal point’s full and half drop repeat patterns are juxtaposed in mirror style, with a blooming dove floating on a partitioned diamond repeat background. Each partition is a representation of illusionistic diagonal lines. Curved and straight lines were used to achieve the femininity and masculinity of forms in the design. The design has a symmetrical balance due to the equal arrangement of colours, lines, and shapes. Holistically, the associated design was conceptualized to bring about issues concerning wealth. The dove breaking out of the palm frond provided wealth to the man due to his love and dedication, whereas the dove moving indoors of the palm fronds caused stagnation due to pride. Socio-cultural significance: This folktale is straightforward: A man must be modest enough to remember his roots, and grateful to those who have been good to him under any condition.
