Zainab Bello

Bello Zainab is an academic staff member at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in Kaduna State, Nigeria. In 2018, she began working as a lecturer in the department of Industrial Design at Ahmadu Bello University. Her research focuses on various indigenous textile clothing by recreating and repurposing their designs for contemporary fabric. She became a textile designer in industrial woven textile, surface design, and fabric embellishment after graduating with B.A Industrial Design and M.A Industrial Design (textiles) in 2012 and 2018, respectively. She is also pursuing a PhD in textile and fashion at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria.  Zainab had attended conferences, presented papers and published in both international and national journals. She has also worked as a textile freelancer, empowering youth and local dyers in her community by teaching them various textile resist techniques in design.

Her ambition is to explore product that can take on the role of a storyboard that conveys not only a message and a concept, but also a narrative about the legend, story, and history of the product. Her primary goal as a textile designer follows a clear aim- to expand the field of textiles. Her secondary message as a textile designer is to extend the life cycle of product, lessen the landfill pressure and promote aesthetic artistic effect. Zainab has worked as a freelancer in textiles and empowered youth and local dyers within her community by teaching them different of textile resist techniques in design. With these experiences, it has given a wider horizon to develop her research work in both designing and content.
