Description
You remember going to shaggz and seeing mud wall painted in black, white, and sometimes red?
Yeah, those were simpler times of African beauty untainted by the idea of the contemporary clean-cut look.
Flower petals were a big thing then, and I don’t know why but, even now, when see a mandala designs today, I don’t associate them with Indian origin. I grew up seeing the same style in the simpler African patterns and repeat designs on mud houses. The flower petals formed intricate continuous circular forms or trellis patterns along the doors and window frames as if inviting some flowery deity.
This pattern is an ode to that; in four colourways.
- Black on White
- White on Black
- Gold on Black
- Black on Gold
It does not replicate the past moments, but it is a reminder of the simpler turns. And seemingly even simpler designs, that were only made complex by the feelings they evoked, and the participation in colouring and paint using natural pigments.
